are immigrants pursuing accounting careers discrimanted against jobs?

As immigrant in the States, I want to major in Accounting. Now I am taking my first accounting class. but alot of people who are from where I am discourage me. they say "accounting profession is only for white and american born people….any one with advice can help??? I am confused!!!

employers may be concerned that you are not a legal citizen. you should make it very clear on your aplication/resume that you are a legal citizen with date e.t.c. that you became a legal U.S. citizen(assuming you are!).

If you are not a legal citizen yet this should be the first thing you do before anything else what so ever.

In the county where I live they are getting after employers that higher illegal imigrants with heavy fines/jail time. many employers will not higher immigrants because they do not want to take the risk of highering an illegal.

I am not agsinst imigrants seeking a better life but the county of which i live was starting to turn into little mexico and was draining our local economy dry with all of the financial aid they where needing.

good luck

Do accounting majors need to have great communicative skill?

I am an accounting student and I lack good communication skill. I am already working on it but I was wondering if it is that important in accounting career.

Not really – average is fine. But if it is BAD – then you will have problems.

Thanks

What is happening in the accounting career?

I aspire to be an accountant after college and I was wondering what is it like to be an accountant, CPA or other wise; off season and tax season; is it hard or easy; etc? I just want to know stuff.

I’ve been an EA since 1999. I really enjoy the tax work and don’t mind the hours too much during season. It’s less stress than most of my previous careers. 1040 tax work is not boring! It’s like seeing a couple of hundred soap operas play out year after year.

Which double major goes better with accounting major? Or should I minor in something different?

I’m currently majoring in Business Administration with concentration on accounting. I’m having a hard time trying to decide should I double major another concentration under business or should I minor in a totally different area.

I’m thinking about double majoring in either accounting/finance or accounting/management. Or minor in psychology.

Which looks more impressive on resume and better for my accounting career?

-Business
-Economics
-If your school has it, BusinessEcon
